If your spouse cheats on you and your spouse leaves you, why should you be FURTHER punished by not being able to marry again?

Here i am 11 years later :)) I'f we study POLYGYNY and all the Laws of Old Testament and teachings of New Testament, we will understand very different this theology and Law-less-ness. A Man (created in the IMAGE and GLORY of God) is NOT bounded by his wife (his GLORY) as long he lives, but SHE is bounded by the Law by Him. There are too many texts and examples about POLYGYNY in the Scriptures and you can't break the everlasting Truth . May the Peace of the Son be upon the Sons of Peace and above their houses, forever, Amen !

One thing to remember: as a Christian, NEVER GET MARRIED WITH A PERSON WHO IS DIVORCED. Because it's a sin. There is no need to make excuses, no need to change or rebuilt Jesus words. He calked it SIN, so it is. God make marriage with a man and a woman who have never been married. That's all.

The paradox of Jesus' teaching on divorce explained in one paragraph. In Jesus' response to the Pharisees question in Matthew 19 verse 3 He choose to reveal the byproduct of the divorce concession itself. In verse 8 Jesus contrasted divorce conceded over against marriage in the origin created for life, thus making the point that divorce is sub-standard to God's lifelong design for marriage. Thus divorce will NOT be inconsequential as most think, particularly because there was no forced singleness under the law. There is NO win win in divorce. Marriage is supposed to produce a lifelong single union of two individuals who become one-flesh (signified by sex) at the exclusion of all others as referenced in verses 4-6. Those obligations cannot be sustained if marriage comes to a premature end unless God forces singleness, which wasn't the case. Because remarriage was allowed under the law the one-flesh principle is inadvertently transgressed, causing the individuals involved to commit adultery against their former spouse (Mark 10:11).This violation is based in God's created design for marriage in the beginning (v.8) and was NOT predicated in the law, thus was not punished as was the adultery committed while married. The paradox for Jesus' teaching can be understood if Christians accept the fact that remarriage was graciously allowed under the law following the divorce concession, but being one flesh with one person for life is transgressed circumstantially. What other sin can repent of and continue doing and expect to be in God’s will? I love this sermon and Piper’s devotion and sincerity. I just disagree on that point. We need more preachers that will match the truth of God’s words, to the needs of our lives.

A great failing of the church, at least in American protestant churches, is almost nobody speaks up to correct people that are walking away from their marriage.

Here the meaning is very clear: there are no grounds that would allow for divorce and remarriage. Why isn’t separation, never mentioned as the only alternative? Revised Bibles and Their revised Christians, now declare “remarriage is adultery”, or living in adultery. How about this ancient KJV knowledge … Adultery is Adultery! I know..Mind Boggling! Satan's influence is evident in every divorce and remarriage worldwide, as he seeks to destroy all marriages. By doing so, he seeks to undermine the sacred bond that only God has the authority to sever. Rather than divorce, God uses death as the sole means to end a marriage.

Our only option is to separate from our spouse and remain single. If things improve between us and our spouse, reconciliation is possible (1 Corinthians 7:10-11, Bible). What about the exception in Matthew 5:31-32 and Matthew 19:1-9? There is no exception in Matthew's gospel: Once married, always married until death do us part, no exceptions. This applies to all human beings, regardless of whether you are a sinner or a saint.

The view that you don’t need to separate a second adulterous marriage is wrong. It’s not a real marriage because the 1st marriage is the real covenant marriage which God has validated and man cannot break with only one exception. This is false and dangerous teaching and will send many to hell.

Whoa he lost me (at around 57:00) after clearly stating from the bible all remarriage is adultery to immediately say he doesn't think those adulterous remarriages should end. My God. To this I say that for John to say this, he has the fear of man more than the fear of God on this topic. He's trying to keep church members because I bet 95% of them are divorced & remarried. He's worry about offending them for risk of them leaving and going somewhere else.

The Protestant reformation divorced itself from the Church, so it was only one more step for Protestantism to have consistently loosened and tolerated divorce and remarriage in families. Anglicanism proves Protestantism is a farce. An entire denomination rooted in lust, divorce and remarriage.

Husband was married to a divorced woman and then he divorced her. Then four years later we met and got married. I was very young in the Lord and was newly saved. Didn’t have godly clear discipleship in this. Afterwards we both realized we missed God. Repented. A pastor said God will require us to keep this marriage as unto God. But I do feel guilt at time still even though.even though I Know we are forgiven.

How low we have gotten as a society. We've managed to self destroy so precious blessings. GOD PLEASE HELP US! REVIVE us LORD PLEASE put an end to this epidemic of marital destruction.

This position doesn't really make sense to me. Attraction is a fundamental part of Eros, and it is also subjective. There are so many couples that may not be physically attractive to us but clearly they're physically attracted to each other, and that's all that matters. Unless what John Piper is getting at is the idea that you shouldnt IGNORE your attraction to someone's inner beauty just because they may not be what you're looking for physically.

My husband of 35 years has allowed me to walk away from our abusive marriage. He is has too much pride and arrogance to reconcile in peace. I always try to go back and make amends but it's too abusive and toxic I just pray and stay away. My husband just moved on.

John Piper needs to Pipe down in things hes not been through. Matthew 19:9 kjv stands regsrdless of what HE thinks. Has he tried to have spiritial unity with an adulterous wife? NO! ...and the spirit in her?

Hi. I currently don't have a permanent Church right now and I am seeking spiritual guidance regarding voiding my marriage. We didn't have a marriage license, we were married in court and we were never married at a church. The documents we used to forgo a marriage license were falsified. But we were married because of these falsified documents. My lawyer says this is a valid reason for our marriage to be voided. But in the eyes of God are we married if we had falsified documents? Are we open to remarry?

You are bound by marriage until death Romans chapter 7, Mark chapter 10, 1 Corinthians chapter 7. Use the KJV bible because these new translations use the words sexual immorality… there is a difference between adultery and fornication. I was remarried and divorced and the Holy Ghost told me I’d end up in a burning hell if I stayed in it. It was painful but I have peace in my soul now. Wish it was that easy Separated many time from my 34 year marriage. Returned to my husband many times but after 45 years my husband has not initiated the reconciliation. I have followed The Lord's command stay single or reconcile I am now 62 years old and my marriage remains the same. It's not easy but will follow The Lord even if it means I will be alone for the rest of my life.

You encourage people to stay in an adulterous marriage, you tell those in second marriages to stay in it and not return to their 1st true covenant spouse ., how can you tell someone to do that ? My husband left me after 40 years of marriage. He married his affair partner .. I did all I could to save our marriage. I continue to love and forgive my husband and i continue to honor our vows to each other . I live my life alone , remaining faithful to my husband. How can you encourage anyone to stay in a second marriage when a 1st spouse is honoring their vows to them ? Why is the 1st spouse so disrespected by you ? Why is it ok with you that a 1st spouse is to live their life alone ? Second marriages need to end . no where in scripture does it say God honors an adulterous marriage. Repentance is to turn away from sin not embrace the sin and continue in it .

This is a very dangerous message. This is called Eisegesis. He skipped over the part where Jesus says, “except under the circumstances of sexual immorality.” I wholeheartedly disagree with this view on scripture. My soon to be exwife and I were married 10 years with 2 kids. I found Christ and she wanted nothing to do with God. She abandoned me and our two kids because I was and am serious about Jesus. She started an affair and is pregnant by another man and was abusing our kids. How is that just? How could a loving and just God put the desire for marriage in my heart and say I’m the guilty one? I didn’t leave her she left me. I didn’t file for the divorce she did. I fought for our marriage and I fought for her but she wants nothing to do with me. Am I suppose to stay single because she rejected me? I get punished because of her choices by your logic. That would be a cruel and unjust God if what you say is true. God Himself divorced Israel. Sure He restores her but I’m saying God even divorced. God has a gentile bride now too! What about that? This is ridiculous to claim that Paul was writing from his own view. I agree. But I also know that God forgives us our unintentional sins when we repent. To never allow us to overcome those sins and live in the fullness of life is cruel, and not His nature. As for me, I am leaving it in His hands. If He sends me a goodly man, and if our relationship is a union that glorifies God, I will trust in that. If not, I will gladly live out my days in celibacy and solitude.

Remarriage is not scriptural for any reason except after the death of one’s spouse. Even if one spouse is guilty of sexual immorality. The exception clause is stated ONLY for the question of divorce, NOT remarriage. Plus Jesus was answering their question in regards to Moses’ law, not Christianity. Paul states in 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 that separation or reconciliation are the only two options because you are BOUND TILL DEATH, 1 Corinthians 7:39, Romans 7:1-3. Remarriage is not part of God’s plan for forgiveness, reconciliation, or redemption. Remarriage, if your spouse is still living, is done purely out of fleshly and worldly desires. Reconciliation is God’s will and perfect plan, not remarriage!

Terrible sermon, did not break down any of the scriptures read. He played with the words throughout the video and drifted off topic a lot. Let alone skipped over some of the passages within the verses. 👎

Understanding what the Bible REALLY says about divorce is almost impossible unless you're familiar with Hebrew terms and concepts absent in Christianity, such as 'Agunah'. Time and again, I've found that Christian pastors often miss the true teachings of the Bible on this topic. I highly recommend Dr. Eitan Bar's short book, "Christian and Divorced: What the Bible REALLY Says About Divorce & Remarriage." He is a Jewish-Christian fluent in Hebrew. After reading about 20 different books on the subject, this one stands out as the best. I was even an early reader of it.

John piper destroyed his own sermon when he says people in second marriages should not divorce, for this point he has denied the instructions of Christ. Divorce, remain single or reconcile. Second marriage is not even considered marriage, its adultery, how do you end adultery, you get out of second marriage period.

It's not about our view, if a second marriage is considered as adultery, when one repents, does one continue sinning coz they repented? So the only way not to continue in sin is divorce. Adulterers will not inherit the kingdom of God
